Avery Miller: The Artist Who Brings Joy and Connection to Life’s Biggest Moments

In a world full of fast-paced events, fleeting moments, and constant change, Avery Miller stands as a testament to the power of slowing down, savoring life, and turning meaningful experiences into art. As the founder of A. Curtis Creations, Avery has built a business that merges her deep-rooted love for art with her passion for connecting with people. Whether she’s painting a live portrait at a wedding, hosting a creative art class, or auctioning off her art for charity, Avery’s work goes far beyond just the canvas. It’s about creating experiences, sparking joy, and making memories last forever.

Avery’s story begins in East Texas, where she grew up “playing outside, in the woods, with a full and happy childhood.” Now, as a mother of three little ones, she strives to offer her children the same carefree joy-filled days. “It allows me, as their mother, to step back from the pressures of today’s society and just enjoy it,” she shares. Avery’s upbringing taught her to value the slow moments in life, the in-between moments that often go unnoticed but hold great meaning. It’s no surprise that she has translated this into her art, capturing the most important moments in people’s lives with the same reverence. Avery credits much of her character and work ethic to the “village” she grew up with. She fondly remembers how both her parents and her friends’ parents played significant roles in shaping who she is today. “Each adult tended to us as if we were theirs,” Avery recalls. “They balanced striving for large goals, whether it was being CEOs or full-time moms, while instilling steady values in us.” This sense of community, along with her parents’ example of ambition and balance, laid the foundation for Avery’s own journey into entrepreneurship. But it was a high school art teacher, Mr. Budd Dunn, who truly ignited Avery’s passion for painting. He wasn’t just an educator; he was a mentor and a friend who gave her the advice that would change her life: “Make space for what you love and enjoy.” Though Avery initially pursued a medical degree in college, she eventually found her calling as an artist. “After college, a sorority sister asked if I could paint at her wedding,” Avery recalls. “I said yes and booked three events that same day.” That’s how the magic of A. Curtis Creations began.

Fast forward seven years, and Avery has become one of the leading live event and wedding painters in the country. She has traveled to 12 different states, painted at over 200 events, and even had the opportunity to paint for celebrities and influencers. “Recently, I painted live for an auction that sold for $50,000,” she says with humility, noting how thankful she is for the meaningful gift God has given her. For event professionals, interactive elements like live painting are becoming more than just a nice add-on, they’re central to building meaningful engagement. In fact, over 51.8% of event teams are now prioritizing experiential learning to boost engagement and retention (Bizzabo, 2025) to deepen connections and retain attendees. Avery is at the forefront of this trend, as she believes art not only adds beauty but also enhances the emotional depth of any celebration. “I can’t take this gift for granted,” she says. “A gift that can spread joy, immortalize a life-changing moment, hold grief, bring back a memory of a loved one, and just touch strangers’ hearts (...)”

Like many creative entrepreneurs, Avery has faced challenges that most people never see. She has painted through three pregnancies, nursed between brushstrokes, and even worked through a season when her baby was in the NICU. She jokes about handing bottles of breastmilk to bartenders during events, but behind the humor is grit and devotion. “Juggling real life issues and running a small business is no joke,” she shares. “But it has shown me that, by the grace of God, I am capable of carrying both the weight of motherhood and the strength to build something lasting.” Her journey is also incredibly relatable among creatives. According to the National Endowment for the Arts, 33% of artists in the U.S. are self-employed (National Endowment for the Arts, 2025), compared to just 10% of the overall workforce. Avery is part of a powerful, growing community of creative solopreneurs building careers on their own terms.

One of Avery’s proudest moments came when she was asked to paint a live piece for the fundraising event benefiting the flood victims of Kerr County and Camp Mystic’s “Heaven’s 27.” The piece, titled Eyes Unto The Hills, was a tribute to the girls lost in the tragic flood and raised $50,000 for charity. “I prayed for days that God would show me what to paint,” Avery shares. “I wanted it to be meaningful but not painful to look at.” The result was a beautiful painting of a cowboy overlooking the Texas Hill Country, with 27 bluebonnets representing the girls lost. “It expressed both sorrow and determination,” she explains. The painting was auctioned at the event and raised $50,000 for the flood relief efforts, marking a pivotal moment in Avery’s career. This wasn’t just about art; it was about using her talents to make a real-world impact.

Avery’s success is also rooted in her ability to collaborate with others, whether that’s with wedding planners, event coordinators, or clients. She believes that strong relationships are just as important as the art itself. “When I work with a client, I want them to feel heard and understood in their requests,” she says. “It’s a collaborative effort.” Avery’s approach has earned her a loyal clientele who appreciates her professionalism and the personal touch she brings to each project. Her advice to other women looking to follow a similar path is simple but powerful: “Build good relationships, be respectful, and always stay true to your values.” With a foundation built on trust and collaboration, Avery has cultivated a thriving business that continues to grow.

What’s next for Avery? She’s already looking forward to more big events and weddings, some of which require NDAs, meaning they’re top-secret for now! But she’s also expanding her business with plans to establish a storefront for prints and embellished artwork. Avery is also working on a collection for a local spa and has big plans for more live event auction paintings. “This year is my year of stepping out of my comfort zone,” she gleefully shares, “and I LOVE IT!”

Avery’s personal mantra, “Talitha Koum,” is a powerful reminder of her strength and resilience. The phrase, which means “My little girl, rise up!” in Aramaic, is tattooed on her arm. It symbolizes both her personal transformation and the faith that sustains her. “It represents the death of my old life and my rising to a new life in Christ,” Avery explains. “With Him, I can rise up and face any challenge.”

Avery Miller’s journey is a beautiful example of the power of art, faith, and perseverance. Through her live event paintings, she brings joy, connection, and meaning to life’s biggest moments. As she continues to grow her business and impact the world around her, there’s no doubt that her story is just beginning.
